Founded by applied ethnomusicologist Ghazi Al-Mulaifi, Boom.Diwan is a collaborative jazz ensemble that is inspired by the
cosmopolitan Kuwaiti pearl diving music of the Indian Ocean trade.
Boom: is the most important ship in Kuwait. It was used for pearl diving and for merchant trade.
Diwan: is a place where traditional Kuwaiti pearl diving music ensembles, preserve and share their music.

One of my favourite albums in the last couple of years. Malcolm Jiyane is an unselfish bandleader who gives all the musicians space to shine, so it presents very much as a band album. Very accessible, but has deceptive depth and gets better with every listen.
